Verse 1

The Yoga of Divine Glories

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Listen again, O mighty-armed Arjuna. Because you are My dear friend, for your benefit I shall speak to you further, giving knowledge that is better than what I have already explained.

Context & Meaning

Krishna opens Chapter 10 with an act of pure generosity. He has not been asked — He offers. And the reason He gives is tender: because you are My dear friend, and I want what is good for you. This is the spirit of a teacher who loves the student. The highest teaching flows not from obligation but from affection.

That Krishna continues without being prompted reflects the nature of divine grace — it gives more than is asked. Prīyamāṇāya (to the beloved one) and hitakāmyayā (out of desire for your welfare) together reveal that the Gita itself is an act of love.
