Verse 19

Hard Verse

The Yoga of Knowledge and Realization

After many births and deaths, he who is actually in knowledge surrenders unto Me, knowing Me to be the cause of all causes and all that is. Such a great soul is very rare.

Context & Meaning

True surrender is not the work of a single lifetime — it is the ripening of countless lives of seeking. When at last the seeker knows, with the whole being, "Vāsudeva is all" — that Absolute is the very substance of everything — that great soul has arrived. And such a soul is extraordinarily rare.

Ramanujacharya

Vishishtadvaita

"Vāsudevaḥ sarvam" — Vāsudeva is everything — is the culminating realization. Not merely that God exists everywhere, but that the Divine is the very substance and being of all. This is the peak of jñāna bhakti.

Madhvacharya

Dvaita

The rarity of such a mahātmā points to the depth of grace required. Many lifetimes of sincere practice mature into this single moment of complete surrender and recognition.
